Launch of Vande Bharat Sleeper Train-set with Cutting-Edge Technology and Safety Features

The Indian Railways has made significant strides in enhancing passenger comfort and safety with the introduction of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train-set. The first 16-car prototype rake has been successfully manufactured, and after completing field trials, it is now under commissioning. A total of 10 rakes in a 16-car configuration and 50 rakes in a 24-car configuration are slated for production at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai. Additionally, contracts have been awarded for the manufacturing of 200 more sleeper rakes across Indian Railway Production Units, utilizing Indian Railway staff and technology partners.

These sleeper trains incorporate a range of technological advancements and safety features designed to ensure a safe and efficient travel experience. Key highlights include the KAVACH system for train protection, crashworthy and jerk-free couplers, compliance with EN standards for carbody design, and adherence to EN-45545 HL3 fire safety standards. Each coach is equipped with fire barrier doors, a regenerative braking system for improved energy efficiency, and air conditioning units featuring UV-C lamp-based disinfection systems.

Passenger safety and accessibility are prioritized, with emergency communication units, accommodation for passengers with restricted mobility, automatic plug doors, and wider gangways. The trains also feature ergonomically designed ladders for ease of access to upper berths and a centralized monitoring system to oversee essential amenities like air conditioning and lighting. CCTV surveillance cameras enhance security throughout the coaches.

To support these advanced train sets, new maintenance infrastructure and upgrades to existing depots are planned, with an investment exceeding Rs. 14,000 crore. This comprehensive approach aims to ensure that the Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains provide a modern, efficient, and safe travel experience for passengers across the Indian Railway network.
