Current Status of Junior and Senior Residents at AIIMS, New Delhi

At AIIMS, New Delhi, the posts of Senior Residents (SR) and Junior Residents (JR) are crucial tenure positions within the institution’s healthcare framework. These roles play a significant part in supporting patient care and medical education. However, as of March 2025, there are notable vacancies affecting the staffing levels.

Currently, the institution faces a considerable shortfall, with approximately 434 vacancies for Senior Residents, which constitutes about 37.48% of the total sanctioned positions. The recruitment process for these posts is ongoing, highlighting the continuous effort to fill these critical roles. Similarly, the situation for Junior Residents is also concerning, with around half of the positions remaining unfilled.

The Health Minister has emphasized that the creation of new posts and the recruitment process for these vacancies is a priority, underlining the importance of maintaining adequate staffing levels to ensure quality healthcare services at AIIMS. Addressing these vacancies is essential for enhancing the operational capacity of the institution and providing optimal training and experience for medical professionals.

RECRUITMENT IN AIIMS

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) the details of department wise regular posts, total number of new created posts and category- wise (UR, SEBC, SC, ST) recruitment made for Senior Residents (SRs), Junior Residents (JRs) and Research Associates (RAs) during the last 20 years in AIIMS, New Delhi on the basis of tenure;

(b) the number of SRs/JRs/Research Associates of General Category who are working on contract basis or otherwise against the posts meant for SEBC/SC/ST category-wise and department-wise along with their tenure indicating month, year and with and without break; and

(c) the percentage of such employees as mentioned in comparison to the total sanctioned strength in AIIMS, New Delhi, category-wise and department-wise?

(a): The posts of Senior Residents (SR) and Junior Residents (JR) are tenure posts and creation of new posts and admission / recruitment against vacant posts is a continuous process. The category- wise current status of Junior Residents (JR) and Senior Residents (SR) in AIIMS, New Delhi is as under:

Senior Residents Academic (D.M/ M.Ch)

There is no reservation for Senior Residents Academic.

(b) and (c): There is no regular post of Research Associate in the Institute. The Research Associates are engaged for specific research projects on a fixed term basis as the project requirement.
