Promotion of Unani System of Medicine, Central Council for Resarch in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), State Wise for three years and the current year

(a)  No. As on 01.04.2018, 267 Unani Hospitals and 1657 Unani Dispensaries including Dispensaries under Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) and other Central Government Organizations are available in the States/UTs.

(b)  No proposal has been received from State/UT Governments for opening of Unani medical centres/hospitals under Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National AYUSH Mission (NAM).

(c)  The status of fund released and utilized by Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), an autonomous organization under Ministry of AYUSH during the last three years and current year, State/UT wise is furnished at Annexure-I.
The status of fund released and utilized by National Institute of Unani Medicine (NIUM), Bangalore, an autonomous organization under Ministry of AYUSH during the last three years and current year is furnished at Annexure-II.

Apart from that, under National AYUSH Mission, funds are also provided to State/UT Governments for the promotion of AYUSH systems including Unani. However, no system-wise fund allocation is being made under NAM.

(d)  Government of India is implementing National AYUSH Mission in the country for promotion and development of AYUSH systems including Unani system.

The Mission inter-alia makes provision for the following:-

  • (i) Co-location of AYUSH facilities at Primary Health Centers (PHCs), Community Health Centers (CHCs) and Districts Hospitals (DHs) including Unani system of medicine.
  • (ii) Up gradation of exclusive State Government AYUSH Hospitals and Dispensaries including Unani system of medicine.
  • (iii) Setting up of up to 50 bedded integrated AYUSH Hospital including Unani system of medicine.
  • (iv) Upgradation  of   State  Government  Under-Graduate   and  post-Graduate   Educational Institutions including Unani system of medicine.
  • (v) Setting up of new State Government AYUSH Educational Institutions including Unani system of medicine in the State where it is not available.

State/UT Governments may avail eligible financial assistance by projecting the same through State Annual Action Plan (SAAP) as per NAM guideline.

Further, as far as Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), an autonomous organization under Ministry of AYUSH is concerned, one extension centre of Clinical Research Unit, Edathala, Kerala has been started at Pattiam Gram Panchayat, Kannur, Kerala during current financial year. Construction of a combined building for CCRUM & CCRH (Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, an autonomous organization under Ministry of AYUSH) at Kharghar, Navi Mumbai was also continued to promote and expand the network of Unani System of medicine in the country.

Will  the  Minister  of  AYURVEDA,  YOGA  AND  NATUROPATHY,  UNANI,SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY (AYUSH)  be pleased to state:

  • (a) whether few Unani medical centres are functioning in the country putting the patients under lot of hardship, if so, the details thereof and the reasons for not developing unani medicines as compared to Allopathic medicine along with the number of Unani medical centres functioning in the country under the Ministry, State/UT-wise;
  • (b) whether the Government has received proposals from various States/ UTs for opening of Unani medical centres/ hospitals, if so, the response of the Government thereto;
  • (c) the details of funds allocated and utilised with regard to promotion of Unani
