(a) As on 25.06.2019, Final ESZ Notifications covering 316 Protected Areas and Draft ESZ Notifications covering 199 Protected Areas have been published by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MEF&CC). State-wise details of ESZ is annexed at Annexure 1.
(b) The Notification provides for prohibition ofmining, stone quarrying and crushing units located within one Km. of Protected Areas.Also, in absence of ESZ Notification, anarea of 10 Km around the Protected Areas is considered as default ESZ as per the directions of Hon’ble Supreme Court.
(c) The Eco-Sensitive Zones (ESZs) are Notified under section 3 (v) of the Environment (Protection) Act 1986 and Rule 5 Sub Rule (viii) & (x) of the Environment (Protection) Rules 1986.
(d) The Notification provides for preparation of ZMP by the State Government, inter alia providing for identification of the catchment areas of all natural water bodies/springs and plans for their conservation and rejuvenation.

Will the Minister of ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE be pleased to state:
- (a) the State-wise details of Eco Sensitive Zones (ESZs) which have been created around National Parks, as per the directives of the Supreme Court
- (b) the details of certain conditions specified by the Supreme Court in this regard;
- (c) the steps taken by Government to ensure/maintain the sanctity of ESZ around National Parks; and
- (d) whether permission is required to be taken to alter or terminate water bodies or watersheds around ESZ and if so, the details thereof?
