INCREASE IN MINIMUM SIZE OF HOUSES UNDER PMAY-G

Will the Minister of RURAL DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government proposes to increase the minimum area size of the houses provided through Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G); and
(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) & (b): The Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G), is being implemented with effect from 1st April 2016 to provide assistance to eligible rural households with an overall target to construct 2.95 crore pucca houses with basic amenities by 31st March 2024. Under PMAY-G, the minimum prescribed area of the houses is 25 sq. meters including a dedicated area for hygienic cooking. However, the beneficiaries are free to construct their houses on more than the minimum unit area prescribed under the scheme. At present, there is no proposal under consideration by the Ministry for increasing the minimum prescribed area.
