Drinking Water Facilities in Villages

Since August 2019, Government of India in partnership with States, is implementing Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), to make provision of tap water supply to every rural household of the country, including those in rural areas of Rajasthan, by 2024.
At the time of announcement of Jal Jeevan Mission, out of 18.93 Crore rural households, 3.23 Crore (17%) households were reported to have tap water connections. So far, 5.96 Crore (30.87%) rural households have been provided with tap water connections in last two and half years. Thus, as of date, out of 19.32 Crore rural households in the country, 9.20 Crore (47.63%) households are reported to have tap water supply in their homes. As on date, out of 1.06 Crore rural households in the State of Rajasthan, 24.27 lakh (22.97%) households are reported to have tap water supply in their homes.

Further, as reported by States/ UTs, as on 15.03.2022, out of 17.01 lakh rural habitations of the country spread across 6.05 lakh villages, 13.25 lakh (77.88%) habitations having 78.05% population have provision of potable drinking water with supply level of more than 40 litre per capita per day (lpcd) and 3.47 lakh (20.38%) habitations having 20.58% population with supply level of less than 40 lpcd with sources at a reasonable distance and 0.29 lakh (1.74%) rural habitations having 1.37% population are reported to have water quality issues in drinking water sources. This Information was given by the Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Shri Prahlad Singh Patel in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.
