NO. 1966. SHRI ASHOK KUMAR RAWAT:
Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government proposes a housing development scheme for the poor citizens of the country, especially in backward areas, in which housing shouldbe provided to all the poor people in a fixed period; and
(b) if so, the details thereof, especially in back ward areas?
(SHRI KAUSHAL KISHORE)
(a)&(b) ‘Land’ and ‘Colonization’ are State subjects, therefore, the respective States/ Union Territories (UTs) are required to address the housing needs of its population. However, since 25.06.2015, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs under the vision of ‘Housing for All’, is supplementing the efforts of States/ UTs under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Urban (PMAY-U) by providing Central Assistance for construction of houses for all eligible urban families/ beneficiaries especially those belonging to Economically Weaker Section (EWS). The scheme comprises four verticals, viz., Beneficiary-led individual house construction/ enhancements (BLC), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), “In-situ” Slum Redevelopment (ISSR) and Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS). PMAY-U covers the entire urban area of the country, including Aspirational districts. So far, more than 122 lakh houses involving Central Assistance of Rs. 2.03 lakh crore have been sanctionedin the countryunder PMAY-U, which includes 14.36 lakh houses in Aspirational districts with the Central Assistance of Rs. 22,234 crore. The details are at Annexure.
States/ UTs have been advised to expedite the construction of sanctioned houses so that all houses are completed within the stipulated timeline.
Annexure referred in reply to Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No.1966 due for 28-07-2022
