Will the MINISTER OF HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:
(a) whether Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) that aims to provide quality antenatal care free of cost and universally is meeting its objectives and if so, the details thereof, State/UT and district-wise;
(b) the number of women benefited so far from the said scheme in different districts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands;
(c) the number of doctors registered and those volunteered under PMSMA in Andaman and Nicobar Islands;
(d) the measures taken/being taken to encourage private medical practitioners to extend such essential antenatal care;

(e) whether the Government proposes to take steps to improve awareness about supplementary nutrition under the PMSMA; and
(f) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?
ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE

(a) Government of India launched “Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan” (PMSMA) with an aim to provide fixed-day, free of cost, assured, comprehensive and quality antenatal care on the 9th day of every month universally to all pregnant women in their 2nd / 3rd trimesters of pregnancy. Since inception, more than 3.79 crore pregnant women have received comprehensive ANC under this programme across all States and UTs.
(b) The number of women benefited, so far from the said scheme in different districts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands are 15,727
(c) The number of doctors registered to volunteer under PMSMA, so far in Andaman and Nicobar Islands is 5
(d) The programme also invites active participation from private practitioners on a voluntary basis. The following steps have been taken by the Government to encourage the private healthcare practitioners to extend their services voluntarily and for creating awareness towards promoting IT based registration.
  • Appeal to private medical practitioners to volunteer and join hands for PMSMA by Hon’ble Prime Minister on the occasion of “MANN KI BAAT” episode on 31st July’ 2019.
  • PMSMA ‘I PledgeFor9’ Achievers Awards have been instituted to celebrate individual and team achievements and acknowledge voluntary contributions by private doctors for PMSMA.
  • Centralised PMSMA Portal has been created for registering private practitioners.
  • MoHFW in collaboration with professional organisations viz. FOGSI (Federation of Obstetric and Gynecological Societies of India), IMA (Indian Medical Association) and others, promote PMSMA through platforms like video conferences with member doctors and Lok Sabha TV etc.
(e) to (f) Group Counselling is provided to all pregnant women for diet, sleep, regular ANC check-up, institutional delivery, breastfeeding including awareness about supplementary nutrition.
