EKLAVYA MODEL RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL FOR TRIBAL STUDENTS

Will the Minister of TRIBAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government is implementing the scheme of Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) for providing quality education to tribal students in their own environment;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether it is true that the Government has set the target of total 740 EMRSs to enroll around 3.5 lakh Scheduled Tribe (ST) students across the country;

(d) if so, the details thereof;

(e) the basic criteria fixed for the establishment of an EMRS under the new scheme; and

(f) the measures/steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to ensure that EMRSs are established in close proximity to tribal villages, especially in Palghar district in the State of Maharashtra?

(a) to (e): Government is implementing the central sector scheme of Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) from the year 2018-19 for providing quality education to tribal students in their own environment. Earlier, EMRS was a component under Article 275(1) of the Constitution of India. Under the new scheme, Government decided to set up one EMRS in every block with more than 50% ST population and at least 20,000 tribal persons (as per Census 2011). Accordingly, Ministry has identified 728 EMRSs to enroll around 3.5 lakh Scheduled Tribe (ST) students across the country. As on date, a total number of 708 EMRSs have been sanctioned across the country, out of which 405 EMRSs are reported to be functional. State-wise details of EMRSs are at Annexure.

(f): In order to ensure that EMRS are established in close proximity to tribal villages, the EMRSs have been sanctioned in the block having more than 50% ST population and at least 20,000 tribal persons. The States have been asked to provide land within the blocks approved under the new revamped scheme of EMRS.

5 EMRSs have been sanctioned in Palghar, Maharashtra. The location wise details is as under: –
