ESTABLISHMENT OF NEW AIRPORT IN DHANBAD

Will the Minister of CIVIL AVIATION be pleased to state:-
(a) whether the Government proposes to set up a new airport in Dhanbad Parliamentary constituency;
(b) if so, the details thereof along with the time by which the said airport is likely to be set up in Dhanbad and if not, the reasons therefor; and
(c) the difficulties being faced in setting up of the said airport in Dhanbad?

(a) to (c): Government of India (GoI) has formulated a Greenfield Airports (GFA) Policy, 2008 for development of new Greenfield airports in the country. As per the policy, if any Airport developer including the State Government desires to develop an airport, they are required to identify a suitable site and get the Pre- feasibility Study conducted for construction of airport and submit a proposal to the Central Government for ‘Site Clearance’ followed by ‘In- Principle’ approval. Government of India (GoI) has not received any proposal for ‘Site Clearance’ under Greenfield Airports Policy either from State Government of Jharkhand or any Airport Developer for construction of a Greenfield Airport at Dhanbad in the State of Jharkhand.
Further, Ministry of Civil Aviation has launched Regional Connectivity Scheme, (RCS)-UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik), which is a demand driven scheme to stimulate regional air connectivity and making air travel affordable to the masses. The existing Dhanbad Airport, which belongs to State Government of Jharkhand, is listed in the list of unserved airports in UDAN Document.
Under UDAN 5.2, for small aircraft (less than 20-seaters), bid has been received for Dhanbad airport in Jharkhand. The State Government of Jharkhand was requested to provide their consent and confirmation regarding the availability of land for the operation of small aircraft (2B) and for future expansion to category 3C. However, the State Government of Jharkhand has not given consent to develop the Dhanbad airport due to land constraints.
