CONSTRUCTION OF HOSTELS FOR ST STUDENTS
1615 SHRI ARUN BHARTI:
Will the Minister of TRIBAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government has any scheme for the construction of hostels for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students and if so, the details thereof;
(b) the number of current hostels in Bihar, district-wise including Munger, Sheikhpura and Jamui districts;
(c) the details of the funds allocated and released for such hostels in Bihar;
(d) whether the State Government of Bihar has requested the Union Government for construction of more hostels in Bihar; and
(e) if so, the details thereof and the steps taken by the Union Government in this regard?

(a) to (c): Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA) was earlier running a separate scheme “Hostels for ST Girls and Boys” under which funds were provided to State Governments for construction of hostels. The scheme was implemented till financial year 2017-18. No Hostel for ST Girls and Boys was sanctioned for Bihar under that scheme. However, during 2016-17 under other scheme, Special Central Assistance to Tribal Sub Plan (SCA to TSP) , the following activity of construction of hostel was approved for State of Bihar:-

During FY 2018-19, activity of construction of hostel was approved for State of Bihar under Article 275(1) of the Constitution of India as given below.

Furthermore, Government of Bihar has informed that they have their own state scheme for the construction of hostels for Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Scheduled Caste(SC) students and they operate two hostels in Munger, two in Sheikhpura, and three in Jamui districts , which are being run by own state scheme funds.
(d) to (e): No such proposal for construction of hostel from State Govt. of Bihar is pending in Ministry.
