Subject: CBSE Reading Challenge 2024-25

Dear Principal

CBSE organises Reading Challenge as an initiative to inculcate a lifelong love of reading in students and enhancement of essential skills for their academic and personal development. Students from classes 6 to 10 of schools affiliated to CBSE may participate in this activity.

CBSE Reading challenge aims to nurture the following critical abilities:

  • Reading with comprehension and accuracy;
  • Constructing meaning by retrieving information and relating text to previous knowledge;
  • Reflect and evaluate the text and;
  • Interpreting information and drawing logical conclusions.

Timeline: August – September, 2024 There will be two rounds of this activity. First Round:

1. All schools may register for this stage.
2. This is to be conducted offline at the school level. Please see Annexure 1 for details.

Second Round:

1. Participating schools may nominate and register 10 students, two students from each class {(classes 6, 7, 8, 9, 10) one each for both English and Hindi categories}.
2. This round will be conducted through CBSE Reading Challenge online portal. Please see Annexure 1 for details.

Languages – The challenge will be conducted in both Hindi and English. Students may participate in either one or both languages.

Categories for participation:

  • Category- I (Class 6-7)
  • Category- II (Class 8-10)

Rewards – All participants of Round-II will be issued an online participation certificate by the Board. Outstanding performers will be awarded appreciation certificates.

CBSE encourages all schools to motivate their students to take part in this enriching initiative. The CBSE Reading Challenge presents an excellent opportunity to enhance literacy skills, critical thinking and instill a passion for reading with understanding. Annexure 1

A. Round One/First Stage

01.08.2024 to 25.08.2024

Schools  affiliated  to  CBSE  may  register  students  for  Reading Challenge Round One:

•        Classes VI & VII and VIII to X

•        Hindi or English or both

•        Registration link available on: www.cbse.gov.in,  www.cbseacademic.nic.in

28.08.2024

Question Papers with the scoring criteria will be made available on the portal to the registered schools to download.

28.08.2024 to 31.08.2024

The  schools  shall  download  papers  and  conduct  the challenge offline.

Schools to identify ten top-performing students:

2 each from Classes VI, VII, VIII, IX and X

For both Hindi and English challenges.

If more than ten students perform equally well, schools may conduct an additional screening test to select the top ten.

02.09.2024 to 17.09.2024

Schools shall register the selected students for Round two via the link on the CBSE website.

B. Round Two/Second Stage

24.09.2024 to 27.09.2024

CBSE will conduct a computer- based Reading challenge for registered students.

Only schools that completed Round One and registered students for Round Two are eligible to participate.

Important Note: Detailed instructions for conducting these activities will be provided only to schools that register students for Round Two of the challenge.

C. Declaration of Result

The results of Round Two winners’ will be notified on the CBSE Academic website.
