Subject: Availability of Entry-Level Primers for Mother Tongues/Local Languages/Home Languages
This is in continuation to our Circular No. Acad-84/2023 dated July 21, 2023 on ‘Multilingual Education and using mother tongue as a medium of instruction’.
2. The National Education Policy 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage – 2022 emphasizes on teaching and learning in mother tongue/home language/local language/regional language for children.
3. Recognizing the value of preserving linguistic diversity as highlighted in above policy documents, NCERT and Indian Institute of Languages (IIL) have collaborated to produce a series of 52 entry-level primers (Praveshikayein) tailored to various mother tongues and local languages spoken across India. These primers aim to aid students in acquiring and mastering language skills early on, particularly if their mother tongue or local language is not the medium of instruction in schools.

5. Schools are encouraged to promote the use of these primers among teachers and students to develop strong language skills in their native language.
