OBC QUOTA FOR NEET POSTGRADUATE EXAMINATION

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government has any proposal to implement Other Backward Classes (OBCs) reservation in All India Quota Seats for National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET)- Postgraduate (PG) examination;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) the number of seats reserved for OBCs out of All India Quota seats for NEET Undergraduate (UG) examination;
(d) whether the Government is aware about the implementation of 69 percent OBC reservation in All India Quota Seats for NEET-UG examination in Tamil Nadu; and

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 123 FOR 28TH JULY, 2023
(a) to (e): From the academic year 2021-22, 27% reservation in respect of OBCs as per the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act 2006 is provided for undergraduate and postgraduate medical/dental courses (MBBS/ MD/MS/Diploma/ BDS/MDS) in All India Quota (AIQ) seats as per Central OBC List (Non creamy layer) and the same is applied for seats contributed by States.
The seats reserved for OBC in AIQ seats for NEET Undergraduate (UG) examination for the academic year 2023-24 are 2189 out of total 8113 AIQ seats.
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) conducts the counselling for seats of undergraduate (UG/MBBS) and postgraduate (PG) medical courses as per the scheme devised by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.
Counselling for UG covers 15% all India quota seats; 100% seats of Central Institutes/ Universities, Deemed Universities; 100% seats in all the Institutes of National Importance (INI). Counselling for PG courses covers 50% seats of All India Quota seats, 100% seats of Central Institutes/Universities and Deemed Universities.
Counselling for the State quota seats in UG and PG medical courses is conducted by the respective State Governments and the reserved seats for OBC category are allotted as per reservation policies enforced in each State. As per information received from State Government of Tamil Nadu, there is no 69% reservation in AIQ.
