MBBS seats allocated to the Government and private medical colleges in the country, State/UT-wise

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:
(a) the number of MBBS seats allocated to the Government and private medical colleges in the country, State/UT-wise including Bihar;
(b) the details of the Government and private medical colleges established in the country during each of the last five years;
(c) whether it is proposed to increase the present number of seats in medical colleges in different States particularly the above mentioned States; and
(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d): As informed by National Medical Commission (NMC) there are 56283 MBBS seats in Government Medical colleges and 51665 MBBS seats in Private Medical college for the year 2023-24 including 1615 Government and 1050 Private MBBS seats in Bihar. The State-UT-wise details are at Annexure-I. The details of the Government and private colleges set up in the country during the last five years are as below:

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare administers a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) for establishment of new Medical Colleges attached with existing district/ referral hospitals’ with preference to underserved areas and aspirational districts where there is no existing Government or private medical college with fund sharing between Center and State Governments in the Ratio of 90:10 for North Eastern special category states and 60:40 for others. Under the scheme, 157 medical colleges have been approved in the three phases, including 08 medical colleges in Bihar with approved cost of Rs. 1628 Cr.
Under CSS for strengthening/ upgradation of existing State Government/ Central Government Medical Colleges to increase the number of MBBS (UG) seats, under which support has been provided for increase of 4677 MBBS seats in 77 colleges with an approved cost of Rs. 5612.25 Cr.
Under upgradation of Government Medical Colleges by construction of Super-Specialty Blocks of Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) Scheme, a total of 75 projects have been approved including 06 Government Medical Colleges at Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Patna, Gaya, & Bhagalpur in Bihar. Further, establishment of 22 new AIIMS including AIIMS at Patna and Darbhanga in Bihar have also been approved.
