Vacant Teachers Posts in Schools/Colleges/Universities Administered by Central Government
1956. SHRI N. REDDEPPA:
Will the Minister of EDUCATION be pleased to state:
(a) whether there are a large number of teaching posts lying vacant in Schools, Colleges and Universities administered by the Government;
(b)
if so, the details thereof, category-wise, and the reasons therefor;
(c) whether the Government has adopted any measures to fill these vacancies, especially the posts sanctioned for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Other Backward Classes categories; and
(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (d): Recruitment of teachers in schools is a continuous process as vacancies keep arising due to factors like retirement, resignation and additional requirements on account of enhanced students’ strength/new schools. The Department of School Education and Literacy, from time to time, through review meetings and advisories, requests the Central Institutions for filling up vacant posts of teachers and their rational deployment.
UGC vide its letters dated 04-06-2019, 34-07-2019, 05-09-2019, and 22-10-2019 has issued directions to higher education institutes to fill up the vacant posts. Further, UGC vide its letter no. F.1- 11/2021(SCT) dated 2nd September, 2021 had requested all Central Universities to fill up vacancies in a Mission Mode within a period of one year starting from 5th September, 2021 to 4th September, 2022. UGC has also requested to all Central Universities to calculate the backlog vacancies for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and EWS as well as overall vacant faculty positions (category-wise) for filling up of vacant positions.
The category-wise details of teacher vacancies in the Central schools of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) as reported by their respective managements and Central Universities as reported by University Grants Commission (UGC) is given at ANNEXURE-I. The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) have notified 12,099 and 3,139 vacancies of teaching/academic staff under direct recruitment drive, limited departmental examination and special recruitment drives respectively.
