DISCONTINUATION OF SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS

Will the Minister of MINORITY AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government has stopped the allocation of funds for pre-matric and post- matric scholarship to the minority students, if so, the reasons therefor along with the quantum of funds sanctioned and utilised for the welfare of minorities in the country, State/UT-wise including Karnataka;
(b) whether the Government has reduced other education grants and scholarships for minority community students in the State of Karnataka and if so, the quantum of funds sanctioned and spent in this regard during the last five years, year and religion-wise;
(c) whether it is a fact that the State Government would bear the expenses of pre-matric and post-matric scholarships for students from minority communities and other backward classes if the Centre does not allocate funds and if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor; and
(d) the details of the minority welfare schemes implemented in the State of Karnataka along with the funds sanctioned and spent during the said period, year-wise particulary in Hassan LokSabha Constituency?

(a): The Government has implemented various schemes for the welfare and upliftment of every strata, including minorities, especially the economically weaker and lesser privileged sections of the society, through various schemes of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Ministry of Textiles, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Women and Child Development and Ministry of Rural Development.
Ministry of Minority Affairs has also implemented various schemes, including various Scholarship and Fellowship schemes, across the country for socio-economic and educational empowerment of the notified minority communities.
The Government has not stopped Pre-Matric and Post Matric Scholarship for minority students. However, Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme for classes I to VIII has been discontinued from 2022-23. The State-wise details of Pre-Matric and Post Matric scholarships sanctioned for 2021-22 are annexed.
(b): No reduction has been done specifically for the State of Karnataka.
(c): Funds for Pre-Matric Scholarship and Post-Matric Scholarship for other backward classes are limited in nature and are released by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment to the States/UTs. However, States/UTs are free to release funds over and above Central allocations from their own fund for these schemes.
(d): The year-wise details of amount sanctioned/released in minority welfare schemes for the State of Karnataka during the last five years are as under:
