Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:
(a) whether the health workers and their dependents who died fighting COVID-19 in the country have been given financial support under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package insurance scheme, if so, the numbers thereof State/UT-wise;
(b)
the quantum of money that have been transferred to their dependents till date, State/ UT-wise;
(c) whether over 75 per cent out of 1800 doctors who succumbed to COVID-19 infection, are not covered under the scheme as they were not working in COVID designated hospitals and if so, the details thereof;
(d) whether the Government has taken any cognizance of the same and if so, the details thereof; and
(e) whether the Government has any plan to include those 75 percent who died in the line of duty, under the scheme and if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (e): The ‘Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package (PMGKP), insurance scheme for Health Care Workers Fighting COVID-19’ was launched on 30th March, 2020 to provide comprehensive personal accident cover of Rs. 50 Lakh to 22.12 lakh health care providers including community health workers and private health workers who may have been in direct contact and care of COVID-19 patients and may be at risk of getting impacted by this.
Further, on account of the unprecedented situation, private hospital staff/retired/ volunteer/local urban bodies/contract/daily wage/ad-hoc/outsourced staff requisitioned by states/central hospitals/autonomous hospitals of central/states/UTs, AIIMS & Institute of
National Importance (INI)/hospitals of Central Ministries specifically drafted for care of COVID-19 patients were also covered under the PMGKP subject to fulfilment of the following conditions : –
I. They should have been deputed by the States/ Central hospitals/ autonomous hospitals of Central/ States/ UTs, AIIMS & INIs/ hospitals of Central Ministries for COVID-19 related responsibilities. They should be working as front-line health workers, who may have to be in direct contact and care of COVID-19 patients and who may be at risk of getting impacted by this.
II. The loss of life should be due to COVID-19 or death due to accident on account of COVID-19 related duty.
Since the launch of the scheme, so far, 2351 claims of Health workers, including doctors, have been settled. The State-wise details with financial support provided is attached at Annexure- A.
