Under the integrated centrally sponsored scheme of Samagra Shiksha, various interventions have been targeted to ensure greater participation of girls in education, which include setting up, up-gradation and running of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas, opening of schools in the neighbourhood to make access easier for girls, free uniform and text-books to girls up to Class VIII, additional teachers and residential quarters for teachers in remote/hilly areas, appointment of additional teachers including women teachers, separate toilets for girls, teachers’ sensitization programmes to promote girls participation. Further, under the student oriented component for the children with special needs, financial assistance is provided for identification and assessment of children with special needs, aids and appliances, braille kits and books, gender sensitive teaching learning material and stipend to girl students with disability etc.
Further, as per the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) / UDISE+, the total enrolment from class 1to 12 for the year 2018-19 and 2021-22 is 24.83 crore and 25.57 crore respectively which shows an overall increase in the enrolment.
