Snags in Vande Bharat Express trains

Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state:

(a) the details of the number of incidents of Vande Bharat Express trains developing snags, hit by animals, etc., in the last six months;

(b) the reasons for such incidents, especially with Vande Bharat Express trains;

(c) whether it is due to defect in fiber reinforced plastic and if so, the details thereof;

(d) the reasons for not manufacturing these trains with carbon steel to make it withstand pressure;

(e) whether any enquiry has been made to find out if the suppliers provided sub-standard quality items for the manufacture of rakes; and

(f) if so, the details thereof ?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (f) OF STARRED QUESTION NO. 116 BY SHRI A. RAJA TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 14.12.2022 REGARDING SNAGS IN VANDE BHARAT EXPRESS TRAINS

(a) & (b): There has been 01 case of axle lock due to bearing failure and 68 cases of hit by animals in Vande-Bharat Trains over entire Indian Railways since 1st June 2022.

(c): No, Sir.

(d): The shell structure of Vande Bharat coach is made of high grade steel. However, the coupler cover fitted in front of Vande Bharat Train as part of nose cone which provides aerodynamic profile to the train is made of Fibre Reinforced Plastic to absorb the impact of hit.

(e) & (f): All supplies of material are accepted only after prescribed inspections as per purchase order/work order and cases of sub standard quality, if any, is dealt as per provisions of the contract.
