Increasing Price of Cooking Gas
3173. SHRI DINESH CHANDRA YADAV
SHRI RAJIV RANJAN SINGH ALIAS LALAN SINGH:
Will the Minister of PETROLEUM AND NATURAL GAS be pleased to state:
(a) whether it is true that recently the price of 14 kg domestic gas cylinder has been increased to Rs.1053/- and in many states the price of domestic gas has reached upto Rs.1200/-;
(b) if so, the reasons for continuous hike in the prices of cooking gas by the Government;
(c) whether this step of the Government would put an additional burden on the general public;
(d) whether such an increase in the prices of gas by the Government in the time of high inflation would result in resentment among the people; and
(e) whether the Government proposes to roll back this increase in the prices of gas with immediate effect and if so, the details thereof?
(SHRI RAMESWAR TELI)
(a) to (e): The prices of petroleum products in the country are linked to the price of respective products in the international market. LPG prices are based on Saudi Contract Prices (CP) and Saudi CP has risen from 236 $/MT in April 2020 to 750 $/MT in June 2022, a rise of 218%. However, Government continues to modulate the effective price to consumer for domestic LPG. In addition, the Government has announced a targeted subsidy of Rs. 200 per 14.2 Kg cylinder for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries for upto 12 refills for year 2022-23.
The details of current Retail Selling Price (RSP) of domestic LPG, state-wise are given at Annexure.
Annexure
