5G NETWORK IN THE COUNTRY
2821. SHRI JANARDAN SINGH SIGRIWAL:
Will the Minister of COMMUNICATIONS be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government has granted 5G network in the country if so, the details and the salient features thereof;
(b) whether the Government has provided adequate infrastructure to operate 5G network in the country;
(c) if so, the details thereof along with the States/ locations identified for 5G trials;
(d) the name of the companies authorised to provide 5G services in the country so far; and
(e) the time by which the said network will likely to be started in all parts of the country?
(SHRI DEVUSINH CHAUHAN)
(a) The launch of 5G network is likely during 2022-23 by Telecom Service Providers (TSPs). The 5G technology offers enhanced mobile broadband, ultra-reliable low latency and massive machine-type communication.
(b) The Government has taken several policy initiatives to facilitate infrastructure growth. These include sharing/ trading/ liberalisation of spectrum and sharing of passive/active infrastructure.
(c) The Department of Telecommunications has granted permission to M/s Bharti Airtel Limited, M/s Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, M/s Vodafone Idea Limited and M/s Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited for conducting 5G trials in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh (East) and Punjab Licensed Service Areas.
(d) The licenses issued and the spectrum allocated to TSPs by the Government are technology neutral.
(e) The 5G services are expected to be introduced gradually and advance to a full range of services as ecosystem and demand for services grows.
