SCHOOLS OPERATED BY DEFENCE FORCES
1103. SHRI RAJIV PRATAP RUDY:
Will the Minister of DEFENCE be pleased to state:
(a) whether the defence forces operate schools and higher education institutions across the country for wards of defence personnel;
(b) if so, the details of different categories of such schools run by the defence forces and their management bodies;
(c) the number of such schools and the number of students enrolled therein across the country, category-wise and State/UT-wise including Bihar; and
(d) whether the Government proposes to open more such schools in the country including Bihar and if so, the details thereof?
(a) & (b): The details of the schools run by the defence forces are as follows: Indian Army:
The Army operates, Army Kindergarten Schools, Army Children Schools (Class I to XII) with a strength of approximately 3,10,000 students. The schools are managed by the Local Military Authority of concerned Military Station under the Chief of Army Staff, Vice Chief of Army Staff and General Officers Commanding in Chief (GOC-in-C) of all Commands who are the Board of Governors. The school categories are as given below:
(i) Kindergarten/Pre Primary Schools
(ii) Middle schools
(iii) Secondary Schools
Indian Navy:
The schools operated by the Indian Navy are under the following two categories:
(i) Pre-primary
- (Naval Kindergartens) – NKGs
(ii) Primary to Senior Secondary (Navy Children Schools) – NCSs
Indian Air Force:
Air Force Schools of following categories are functioning at Air Force Bases across the country and these schools are administered by respective School Management Committees under local Air Force Station authorities.
(i) Pre- Primary Schools
(ii) Primary School
(iii) Middle Schools
(iv) Secondary Schools
(v) Senior Secondary Schools
(c): Information is being collected and will be laid on the Table of the House.
(d): At present, there is no proposal to open more such schools in the country including Bihar.
