More than 133 Crore Aadhaars have been issued as of April 2022. 99.9% of adults in India have an Aadhar Card. Since its inception Aadhar Card has helped bridge the digital divide and helped in smooth roll-out of various government’s direct benefit transfer schemes. The card has helped in pushing e-KYC services, eased services. The Government of India has also received a lot of interest in Aadhar Card from various countries across the world.

Dr. Saurabh Garg, CEO, UIDAI said, “Aadhaar has given fundamental identity in sectors like DBT, Education, scholarships, fintech, healthcare, etc. There are various untapped sectors and gaps that can be exploited by using Digital Identity to reach the last mile of users and achieve universal inclusion, both social and financial.”

He further added, “We have reached a milestone after a decade where every adult has an Aadhar Card. Certain areas have less saturation, need to increase Aadhar penetration in those areas. We now need to focus on how identification can be done without the use of the internet.”
