The meeting was attended by minister of state Brijesh Singh, divisional chief engineer, superintending engineer and executive engineers through video conferencing with principal secretary PWD, principal engineers and chief engineers at headquarters.
The cabinet minister said, “On priority basis all pontoon bridges in the state should be converted into concrete and steel-based bridges in a phase-wise manner. Further, all state, districts and other major roads must be widened to at least two lanes in the next five years, for which an action plan should be presented soon. Emphasis should be given to develop more bypass in major towns where vehicular traffic is heavy.”
“The under construction of inter-state and the block headquarters roads must be completed within his financial year. An effective monitoring system with a target-oriented action plan should be prepared to complete a substantial number of pending projects by January 2024. Further, the bridge corporation must prepare proposals for the construction of a railway over bridge on all level crossings where vehicular traffic is heavy,” instructed the minister to the engineers of his department.
He further told PWD officials, “To include all proposals and instructions given by various public representatives (MLAs/MPs) in the infrastructure development action plans of districts. The plan should be prepared in such a way that an almost equal amount can be sanctioned in each district. To expedite the projects, get necessary clearance from the department in minimum possible time.”
He instructed, “To submit a detailed proposal for the construction of “India-Nepal Friendship Gate” on the Nepal border and conduct survey of those stretches which connects at least two National Highways (NHs) and then send proposal to NHAI Government of India, to declare such a stretch as NH.”
