Will the Minister of SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Vigyan Jyoti programme is becoming popular among girls day-by-day and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether more than 12,000 girls have been supported under the Vigyan Joyti programme and if so, the details thereof, district and State- wise;
(c) whether this programme is limited to only Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs);
(d) if so, the details thereof;
(e) whether the Government intends to extend this to Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and Government schools run by the States for better outreach; and
(f) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) Yes Sir. Vigyan Jyoti Programme is becoming popular among girls day-by-day. The programme is being implemented in 100 districts of 33 States/UTs of the country in Phase II. Around 10000 girls of Class IX-XII are enrolled under Vigyan Jyoti in Phase-II. Various kind of activities are being organized in this programme to create curiosity among girls for STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) fields. These activities include counselling of students-parents, career counselling, science camps, tinkering activities, special lectures/classes, visits to Knowledge Partners (KP)/Industry/Lab, interaction with role models, etc. Some special workshops on latest technologies e.g. Cyber Security Workshops and Coding have also been conducted for Vigyan Jyoti Scholars. With these interventions’ girls are now taking more interest in STEM.
(b) to (d) Yes, more than 12000 girls have been supported under Vigyan Jyoti programme since 2019-20. The programme is operational in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) of 100 districts and supporting meritorious girls from JNVs, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Army Schools and other Government Schools. The detailed list of 100 JNVs and number of girls enrolled district and State-wise is given below:
