Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has undertaken any measures to secure representation of OBCs in employment and for their welfare in Railways, particularly in Southern Zone;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the total number of such OBCs who availed such representation and welfare in Southern Railways during the three years?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO.1202 BY SHRI RAMALINGAM S. TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 09.02.2022 REGARDING REPRESENTATION OF OBCs FOR EMPLOYMENT

(a) Yes, Sir.

(b) As per reservation policy of Government of India, in direct recruitment, 27% of vacancies are reserved for OBCs in civil posts and Services under the Govt. of India. The candidates belonging to OBC community recruited on merit basis are adjusted against unreserved quota and they are not adjusted against the 27% quota earmarked for OBCs.

Liaison Officers have been appointed in Railway Board and Zonal Railways/Production Units (including Southern Railway) to look after the welfare of OBC Railway employees and for monitoring of the implementation of reservation policy for OBCs.

(c) The total number of OBC candidates recruited during the last three years against reservation for OBCs in Southern Railway is as under:-
