BPL AND OLD AGE PENSION SCHEME
Will the Minister of RURAL DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state:
(a) whether it is a fact that old age parents of a middle class family do not get any help and are forced to go to old age homes;
(b) if so, whether the Government is considering to remove the compulsion of BPL for Old Age Pension Scheme; and
(c) if so, the details thereof?

(a) Under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parent and Senior Citizens (MWPSC) Act, 2007, parents and senior citizens are entitled to get maintenance amount of upto Rs.10,000/- per month upon making a claim before the Maintenance Tribunal. The Act also provides security against neglect through measures like revocation of property ownership of the children/ relatives by a senior citizen. Old age pension is provided to below poverty line elderly persons at the rate of Rs.200/- per month to those in the age group of 60-79 years and Rs.500/- per month to those in the age of 80 years and above under Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS).
(b) & (c) There is no proposal to remove compulsion of BPL households for Old Age Pension Scheme.
