NATIONAL BROADBAND MISSION IN BIHAR

Will the Minister of COMMUNICATIONS be pleased to state:

(a) the amount of funds allocated so far by the Union Government to the State of Bihar under the National Broadband Mission (NBM);

(b) the progress made under this mission at the State level so far; and

(c) the time by which the access to Broadband is likely to be provided to all the villages of the country under this mission?

(a) to (c) A statement is laid on the Table of the House.

STATEMENT TO BE LAID ON THE TABLE OF THE LOK SABHA IN RESPECT OF PARTS (a) to (c) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 151 FOR 8TH DECEMBER, 2021 REGARDING “NATIONAL BROADBAND MISSION IN BIHAR”

(a) For realizing the vision of National Broadband Mission (NBM), broadband facility is provided by the Government and the Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) through wireless mobile and fixed wireless connections in phased manner. Fund utilized by Government of India under Bharat Net project through Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) in Bihar, as on 30.09.2021, is Rs.1300.29 crores.

(b) As per data provided by Telecom Service Providers and field units of Department of Telecommunications, out of 39,703 inhabited villages (as per Census 2011) in Bihar, mobile wireless broadband coverage has been provided in 38,733 villages. Under Bharat Net project, 8298 GPs have been made Service Ready in Bihar.

(c) On 30.06.2021, the scope of Bharat Net was extended up to all inhabited villages beyond GPs in the country for complete coverage under the project by August, 2023.
