SURVEY REGARDING SLUM POPULATION

Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) whether Government has conducted any survey regarding the slum population of the cities in the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether Government has introduced any scheme for the upliftment of the slum population;
(d) if so, the details thereof;
(e) the cities included in the above scheme, State-wise, specifically in Maharashtra; and
(f) the progress made so for in this regard?

(a) & (b) Census of India conducts the complete enumeration of country’s population on a decadal basis, which includes the persons living in slums.As per Census 2011, a total of 6.54 crore persons lived in the slums in the country.
(c) & (d):Yes, Sir. Government is implementing Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) to provide pucca houses to all eligible beneficiaries of urban India including slum population by year March 2022. Under ‘In-situ’ Slum Redevelopment (ISSR) component of PMAY-U, houses are being provided to the eligible slum dwellers using land as a resource with private participation to bring them into the formal urban settlement.
(e) & (f): All Statutory Towns as per Census 2011 and towns notified subsequently and areas falling within Notified Planning/Development area under the jurisdiction of an Industrial Development Authority/Special Area Development Authority/Urban Development Authority or any such Authority under State legislation, which is entrusted with the functions of urban planning and regulations including Maharashtra are included under PMAY-U.All such above towns /areas of Maharashtra are already included in PMAY-U. The progress made so far under ISSR componentis at Annexure.
