(a) The current guidelines provide for 20 slots under the scheme. The number of eligible applicants who participated in the selection process were fewer than the number of eligible applicants. Suitable candidates were selected for the 20 slots. However, it was found that even the selected students were not able to avail of the scholarships for various reasons including their inability to obtain admission in Universities abroad.
(b) The rationale behind fixing the income limit to Rs.6.00 lakhs per annum is to cover majority of poorer scheduled tribe population for pursuing higher studies abroad.
