Government of India undertakes revision of the Wages/Honorarium of Anganwadi Workers

Will the Minister of WOMEN AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state:
(a) whether the wages/ honorarium of Anganwadi Workers (AWs) and helpers is less than the daily wages of daily workers;
(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;
(c) whether the Government proposes to increase the honorarium of AWs and helpers, if so, the details in this regard and if not, the reasons therefor;
(d) whether there is any proposal to implement the recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee in this regard and if so, the time limit fixed therefor and if not, the reasons therefor,
(e) whether the Government has held any meeting in regard to the demands of AWs and increasing the honorarium of the said AWs and helpers and if so, the details thereof; and
(f) the steps taken by the Government to address the problems and demands of the said AWs and helpers, State/ UT-wise including Gujarat?

(a) & (b) Anganwadi Workers being honorary workers are not covered under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948.
(c) to (e) The Government of India undertakes revision of the honorarium of AWWs and AWHs from time to time. The Government of India has recently enhanced the honorarium of AWWs/AWHs apart from introducing performance linked incentive of 250/- per month to AWHs. In addition to the honorarium and other incentives paid by the Government of India, the respective State/UTs also give monetary incentives to these workers.
(f) M/o WCD has taken steps for sustained engagements with State Governments to address issues concerning Anganwadi Infrastructure, non- operationalization of Anganwadi Centres, filling up of vacancies and smooth delivery of services to the beneficiaries.
