CLOSING OF KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA

Will the Minister of EDUCATION be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government has received any proposal for closing down the project sector Kendriya Vidyalaya attached to NTPC thermal power plant in Kayamkulam in Kerala and if so, the status thereof;
(b) whether the Government will consider converting the above said Kendriya Vidyalaya to a civil sector Kendriya Vidyalaya taking into consideration the interests of the students and if not, the reasons therefor; and

(c) whether the Government proposes to open more civil sector Kendriya Vidyalayas in Kerala?

A. M. ARIFF, HON’BLE MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT TO BE ANSWERED ON 8TH MARCH 2021 REGARDING CLOSING OF KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA.
(a) & (b) Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has informed that the Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) NTPC, Kayamkulam was opened in the year 1999-2000 in project sector under the sponsorship of NTPC, Kayamkulam mainly to cater the educational needs of the wards of the NTPC employees. The KV is presently functioning from class I to XII with an enrollment of 710 students out of which, 46 students are the wards of NTPC employees. NTPC authorities have conveyed that due to financial constraints as well as less number of wards of NTPC employees, NTPC authorities are unable to continue the financial support to KV, NTPC Kayamkulam from the academic year 2022-2023. The NTPC authorities at Kayamkulam have conveyed that NTPC is ready to extend the infrastructural facilities to KVS till a permanent alternate arrangement is made.

(c) Opening of KVs is a continuous process. The proposals received from various sponsoring authorities found fulfilling the mandatory pre-requisites have to compete with other such proposals under the “Challenge Method”.
