(b) the quantum of power generated by various solar power generators and the number of agreements signed along with the capacity and the names of DISCOMs, in the last two years;
(c) the initiatives being taken by Government for marketing of generated and surplus solar power; and
(d) whether this marketing situation would disrupt the country’s solar energy expansion plan, if so, the steps being taken by Government to deal with this situation?
ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE (I/C) FOR NEW & RENEWABLE ENERGY, POWER and MoS for SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP
(SHRI R.K. SINGH)
(a) Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) is engaged in both setting up projects for generation of renewable power and functioning as intermediate procurer – selecting Developers through transparent bids for setting up Renewable Energy generation projects, procuring power from them and selling it to distribution companies.
(b) The quantum of power generated by various solar power developers under SECI tenders in the last two financial years is as follows:
- FY 2018-19: 6832 MU
- FY 2019-20: 9810 MU
The number of agreements signed by SECI with Discoms in FY 2018-19 and FY 2019-20 is given at Annexure-I.
(c)&(d) The Government has prescribed Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) that mandates the electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs) to purchase a minimum share of renewable power, including solar power. Further, Government’s initiatives like solar parks, green energy corridors and standard bidding guidelines for procurement of solar/ wind power have led to a steep decline in solar tariffs over the last few years. This makes renewable power an attractive alternative to conventional power.
