ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) OF THE MINISTRY
OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS
(SHRI HARDEEP SINGH PURI)
(a) & (b): Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has been implementing Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) since 25.06.2015 for providing assistance to States/ Union Territories (UTs) for addressing the housing shortage of the people belonging to Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Low Income Group (LIG) and Middle Income Group (MIG) categories in urban areas.
States/UTs have undertaken demand survey for assessing actual demand of housing under the Scheme. The assessed demand reported by States/UTs is around 112 lakhs. A total of 110 lakh houses have so far been sanctioned; out of this, 41.8 lakh have been completed/ delivered and remaining are at various stages of construction which are targeted to be progressively completed within the Mission period i.e. up to March, 2022.
Out of total 110 lakh sanctioned houses under the PMAY-U, 99 lakh houses have been sanctioned for beneficiaries belonging to EWS category. In the State of Uttar Pradesh, out of total 17.7 lakh sanctioned houses, 16.8 lakh houses are for beneficiaries of EWS category.
States/UTs have been requested to expedite the grounding and completion of houses approved under the Scheme. Ministry is facilitating States/UTs by ensuring adequate funds and promotion of alternative and innovative construction technologies for rapid delivery of houses. The Scheme is well poised to achieve the vision of ‘Housing for All’ by 2022.
