Will the Minister of LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT be pleased to state:
(a) the number of labour and workers in the unorganized sector who have benefitted from Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan scheme (PM-SYM) since its inception along with the amount allocated for the scheme till date;
(b) whether the Government is also depositing equal matching share in the pension account of the workers every month under the scheme and if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether there is steep decline in the average monthly enrollment of PM-SYM and if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;
(d) whether unorganized workers are not keen on old-age pension scheme and if so, the corrective steps taken by the Government to increase monthly enrollment of PM-SYM and make the scheme popular among unorganized workers; and
(e) the estimated number of salaried employees who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19 pandemic?
ANSWER
(a) to (e): For old age protection in the form of monthly pension, Ministry of Labour & Employment has launched Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan Yojana which is a voluntary and contributory pension scheme for providing monthly minimum assured pension of Rs. 3,000/- after the age of 60 years.
The unorganised workers in the age group of 18-40 years whose monthly income is Rs.15,000/- or less and not a member of EPFO/ESIC/NPS (Government funded) are eligible to join the scheme. So far, over 44.46 Lakh beneficiaries have been enrolled. Total fund allocated since inception is given below:
