be pleased to state: 
  • (a) the agencies giving AGMARK certification for horticulture products; 
  • (b) the norms for AGMARK certification for horticulture products; 
  • (c) the details of the certified AGMARK horticulture products so far; 
  • (d) whether for certification of any horticulture product all the varieties at that product, be it any regional variety are included; and 
  • (e) if so, whether the Government considers to include the State Government agencies in the certification process, if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (c) Directorate of Marketing & Inspection (DMI), an attached office of Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, is implementing Agmark Certification through its 11 Regional Offices, 27 Sub Offices, in the country. The AGMARK Certification of horticulture products is carried out as per the provisions of “Fruits and Vegetable Grading and Marking Rules 2004” under the Agricultural Produce (Grading & Marking) Act 1937, and as amended from time to time under which the Grade standards for 57 Fruits and Vegetables have been notified under aforesaid provisions so far as provided in Annexure-I. The AGMARK Grade Standards are voluntary in nature and is based on demand. Presently, horticulture products for exports only are certified under Agmark and is as under.-

d)  Yes, the certification is for a product category and all varieties of above horticultural products, including regional varieties are included. 

(e)  State Government agencies can apply for participation in certification process of horticulture products under AGMARK. But currently no such proposal has been received. However, in case of other commodities like Ghee, Vegetable oils, Wheat Atta, Suji, Besan, Maida, Spices, Cereals, Pulses, Honey, Edible nuts, Oil seeds, Oil cake, etc. State Government agencies are involved in certification process for domestic purpose.
